Hollingsworth, Nancy

Nancy Lee Moss Hollingsworth, 85, of Victoria died July 21, 2018, at her home. Mrs. Hollingsworth was retired from the Jefferson-Franklin Community Action Agency as a social service worker. She was a graduate of Mehlville High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Washington University. The daughter of “G-man” (FBI agent), as a child she attended the Meglin Dance Studio, the same one where Shirley Temple studied. She believed strongly in women’s rights and was actively involved in the ERA movement of the 1970s, becoming a trusted friend and role model to many women. Her hobbies included historical re-enactments (she was a member of the 9th Missouri Sharpshooters) and enjoying nature (she was a member of the Missouri Mycological Society of mushroom enthusiasts). She was a community leader, serving on the Jefferson College Board of Trustees for many years, as pastor of the Victoria and Hematite United Methodist Churches and as a leader in the local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

Born Oct. 26, 1932, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Katherine Claire (Halberstadt) and the Hon. Herbert K. Moss. She was preceded in death by her former husband: Daniel Brunson Hollingsworth.

Herbert Moss (Jane) Hollingsworth of Imperial, John Hampton (Carol) Hollingsworth of De Soto, Diomede Franklin (Jill) Hollingsworth of Victoria, James Walter (Alex) Hollingsworth of St. Louis, Thomas Eagleton (Misty) Hollingsworth of Victoria, Sallie Strother (Jim) Meine of Hillsboro, Katherine Julia (Doyl) Chilton of De Soto, Amby Lee (Mike) Mafort of Hillsboro and Mary Susan (Sharon) Hollingsworth of Bonne Terre; a stepson: Chance Daniel (Christy) Hollingsworth of St. Louis; a sister: Sarah Moss Hamilton of Imperial; a nephew: David Herbert Hamilton of Imperial; 28 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson: Skyler Charles McDonald; and a great-grandson: Phoenix Mason.

A memorial gathering is scheduled at 6 p.m., followed by a celebration of life service at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
