Grooms, Nadine

Nadine Grooms, 94, of Blue Springs, formerly of Festus, died June 6, 2017, at the Parkway Senior Living Community in Blue Springs. Mrs. Grooms was a wife, mother, homemaker and employee of Gift Chest Jewelers in Festus. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Festus/Crystal City. Born May 3, 1923, in Hardin, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Ginny Jewel (Wells) and Hannibal Drew Sweet. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years: Garland Grooms.

She is survived by two children: Brenda (Phil) Dunham of Independence and Garland "Wayne" (Kimberly) Grooms of Tega Cay, S.C.; six grandchildren: Sarah Beth (Ray) Cooper Gonzalez, Rebecca Lynn (Alan) Cooper Zentz, Megan (Jeremy) Grooms Mooney, Daniel Grooms, Morgan Grooms, and Melissa Grooms; seven great-grandchildren: Alejandro Castillo, Mateo Castillo, Gabriella Castillo, Annabelle Zentz, Amelia Zentz, Nora Mooney and Charlotte Grace Mooney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters: Lois Heckert, Wylmoth Lynn and Virginia Pulliam; and four brothers: Hardy Sweet, Roy Sweet, Tom Sweet and Ed Sweet.

Visitation is at 9:30 a.m. and a funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, June 12, at First Baptist Church of Festus/Crystal City, 107 N. Truman Blvd., in Crystal City, officiated by Pastor Charles McLain. Burial is in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Festus/Crystal City. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
