Monica Marchand, 73, of Ozark died June 7, 2018, in Ozark. Mrs. Marchand was a member of the Catholic faith. She was born Nov. 30, 1944, in New york, the daughter of the late Dorothy (Carnaghan) and Owen J. Sheehan, and grew up on Long island in New Hyde Park. A Latin scholar, she graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Manhasset, N.Y., and from Marywood College in Scranton, Pa. After moving to Missouri, she earned a master’s degree in human resource development from Webster University. She taught fourth grade at Sacred Heart School in Crystal City and served as religious coordinator for the St. Martin de Porres School in Hazelwood. She was the director of A Safe Place, the local shelter for victims of domestic abuse. She was a member of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Scranton and was a volunteer tutor at Woerner Elementary in St. Louis. She was preceded in death by her husband: Roger J. Marchand.
She is survived by two children: Jennifer (Scott) Taylor of Ozark and Teresa (Anthony) Cappello of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two siblings: Sister Anne Sheehan of Huntington, N.Y., and Catherine (David) Wood of Lynbrook, N.Y.; six grandchildren: Madison Marchand of St. Louis, Hayden Williams of Ozark, Chase Cappello of Belleville, Micah Williams of Ozark, Caty Taylor of Ozark and Cara Taylor of Ozark; and a niece: Khalie (Jon) Aker of Wappinger Falls, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by a brother: Vincent Sheehan.
A private graveside memorial was held at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crystal City, officiated by Deacon Jerry Stoverink. Memorials may be made to Woerner Elementary, 6131 Leona, St. Louis, 63116.
