Michael “Myke” Corey Phelps, 28, of Hillsboro died Jan. 15, 2017. Mr. Phelps worked as a painter for B & C Painting and was a member of the Painters District Council 58, Local 1199. He enjoyed being outdoors and his interests included hunting, fishing, boating on the Big River and Black River, and finding new trails on his side-by-side. His favorite place was Clearwater Lake in Piedmont, and he loved to be surrounded by family and friends. He was born Dec. 28, 1988, in St Louis, the son of Michael and Virginia “Ginny” (Bennett) Phelps of Hillsboro.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife: Jessica “Jessie” (Evans) Phelps of Hillsboro; a son: Corey Ryan Phelps; a brother: Nathan Phelps of Hillsboro; his grandparents: Jack and Norma Phelps of Piedmont; many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends; and his dog, Logan.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Allena and Virgil Bennett.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Highway 30, in Cedar Hill. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4675 Notre Dame Lane, in House Springs. Memorials may be made to the family for an educational fund for Mr. Phelps’ son. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
