Michael Irwin Carpenter, 57, of Wahoo, Neb., formerly of Festus, died Dec. 26, 2018, at his home. Mr. Carpenter went through the Festus R-6 School District and served in the U.S. Army Reserve from Nov. 14, 1978, to Nov. 11, 1981. He was a member of the Catholic faith. Born Oct. 23, 1961, in Festus, he was the son of Melvin Charles Carpenter of Mount Zion, Ill., and the late Deanna (Jones) Carpenter.
In addition to his father, he is survived by two children: Christine Carpenter of Clarinda, Iowa, and Michael Carpenter II of Sullivan, Ill.; two brothers: Melvin C. (K.C.) Carpenter Jr. of Troy, Mich., and Darren (Molly) Carpenter of Decatur, Ill.; three grandchildren: Josden, Karalina and Greyson Carpenter, all of Sullivan, Ill.; a sister-in-law: Diane Carpenter of Nixa; two aunts: Linda (Oliver) Runzi and Carol (Mel) Ballard, both of Festus; and two uncles: Brian (Claudia) Carpenter of Decatur, Ill., and Larry (Ellen) Jones of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Scott Carpenter; and four grandparents: Melvin H. and Mildred “Millie” Carpenter and Irwin and Adelaide “Addie” Jones.
Graveside memorial services with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks, 2900 Sheridan Road, in St. Louis County. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
