Doney, Melvin

Melvin Richard “Mel” Doney, 100, of Hillsboro died Oct. 20. Mr. Doney was retired from Von Hoffman Printing in Kirkwood, where he worked as a pressman in the printing shop. He enjoyed playing slow pitch softball, bowling, horseshoes, golf and ballroom dancing, and loved barbecuing and spending time with his family. Born Nov. 28, 1919, in Piedmont, he was the son of the late Lewis and Mamie (Bunyard) Doney. He was preceded in death by his wife: Zita (Pashia) Doney.

He is survived by a daughter: Barbara J. Null of Hillsboro; two sons: Robert (Sherry) Doney of California and Stephen (Pamela) Doney of Festus; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons: Richard and Ronald Doney; four brothers: Wayne, Earl, Doyle and Robert Doney; and a sister: Ruth Doney.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at Mahn Funeral Home, 900 N. Main St., in De Soto. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at St. Joachim Catholic Church. Burial is in the St. Joachim Parish Cemetery. Memorials may be made in the form of  Masses in Mr. Doney’s memory. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home.
