Mary “Esther” Oliver, 94, of Festus died June 9, 2019, in Festus. Mrs. Oliver worked at the Pittsburg Plate Glass plant in Crystal City during the Korean War. She retired as a daycare worker at Second Baptist Church in Festus, where she was a member. She enjoyed sewing, embroidering, drawing, cooking, shopping and dining out. Born June 18, 1924, in Herculaneum, she was the daughter of the late Rebecca Elizabeth (Craig) and Frank Burgan. She was preceded in death by her husband: Russell A. Oliver Sr.
She is survived by two daughters: Mary Esther Uding of Festus and Linda Jean (David) Dyle of Festus; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by a son: Russell A. Oliver Jr.; four sisters: Thelma Mae Burgan, Rebecca Elizabeth Long, Dolly Marie Chotrow and Ethel Bernice Huskey; and seven brothers: Joseph Francis Burgan, Elvin Monroe Burgan, William Deirward Burgan, Albert Nathaniel Burgan, Louis Emanuel Burgan, Charles Robert Burgan and Everett Lee Burgan.
Visitation is at 1 p.m. and a funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main, in Festus, officiated by the Rev. Randy Casey. Burial is in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
