Hagan, Mary Ellen

Mary Ellen Hagan, 92, of Crystal City died June 8, 2019, at her home. Mrs. Hagan was a 1944 graduate of Crystal City High School and a longtime active member of Sacred Heart Church in Crystal City, where she served as a Eucharistic minister and was a member of the Legion of Mary. Born April 2, 1927, in Crystal City, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Theresa (Fischer) and Frederick W. Harter Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband: Dr. Joseph H. Hagan.

She is survived by a son: John (Carla) Hagan of St. Louis; four daughters: Ret. Col. Mary Ann (Michael) Burke, DDS of Kirkwood, Julia M. Hagan of Crystal City, Dr. Jean M. (Randy Graham) Hagan of Festus and Catherine L. (Denny Dennison) Hagan of Mulberry Grove, Ill.; a sister-in-law: Marian Harter of Columbia; six grandchildren: Emilie Burke of St. Louis, Edie (Ben) Delin of Durango, Colo., Joseph (Amber) Hagan of St. Louis, Katie (Glenn) Ellington of St. Louis, Ben Hagan of Wisconsin and Peter (Kelli) Maginot of Los Alamos, N.M.; and seven great-grandchildren: Gus and Gemma Delin, Fiona and Hazel Hagan, and Peter, Gregory and Zachary Maginot.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Eleanor Elizabeth Harter and Thelma (the late Vincent) Smith; and four brothers: Paul A. Harter, Frederick (the late Millie) Harter Jr., Sylvester (the late Sadie) Harter and Robert J. Harter.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Sacred Heart Church in Crystal City, officiated by Father Clark Maes.  Burial is in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crystal City.  Memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Church Cemetery Fund, the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Sacred Heart Church, or to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
