Grewe, Mark

Mark Allen Grewe, 67, of De Soto died Sept. 19, 2021, at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County. Mr. Grewe worked as a carpenter and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in De Soto. After high school graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from May 23, 1972, until March 17, 1976. He was a jack-of-all-trades but master of none, and enjoyed hunting, gardening, fixing things and loved spending time and spoiling his grandchildren. He was born Aug. 21, 1954, in St. Louis, the son of the late Bernard August Grewe Sr. and Shirley Louise (Sullivan) Grewe.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years: Helen Rosetta (Barbagallo) Grewe, whom he married on June 15, 1974, in Imperial; five children: Christopher Allen (Angie) Grewe of Hillsboro, Chad Grewe of De Soto, Cory (Alaina) Grewe of St. Charles, Carmen (John) Bolt of Chesterfield and Carla (Nathan) Hertlein of Manchester; two brothers: Bernard August "Skip" (Andreanna) Grewe Jr. of House Springs and Daniel (Debbie) Grewe of Arnold; a sister: Kathleen (Diana) Grewe of St. Louis; a sister-in-law: Diane Kopp of De Soto; nine grandchildren: Abbey, Sarah, Katie, Hunter, Andrew, Ryan, Tyler, Morgan and Spencer, with another on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his stepmother: Stephanie Grewe, a brother: David Kopp; and a sister: Diann Mercer.

A celebration of life is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Grewe home, followed by an open house. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601; or to the Melanoma Research Foundation, 1420 K Street, NW, 7th Floor, Washington, DC 20005. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel in Festus.
