
Marjorie Gail “Giggles” Porter, 59, of De Soto died June 27, 2022, in De Soto. Ms. Porter attended De Soto High School and Mineral Area College and completed her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Missouri Baptist University. She worked for many years as an RN at Barnes Jewish Hospital as well several nursing homes. Born Jan. 15, 1963, in Munich, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Wanda Irene (Haverstick) and Eldon J. “Bud” Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years: Robert Porter, whom she married on the opening day of deer season in November 1980.
She is survived by a daughter: Ashley Nicole Porter of St. Louis; a stepdaughter: Kathy Porter of Kansas City; four siblings: Tammy (Mike) Biggers of Bonne Terre, Lori Smith of De Soto, Lisa (Jim) Drew of Barnhart and Heather Porter of De Soto; four grandchildren: Hailey, Ally, Avery and Hunter; seven nieces and nephews: Matthew (Cathy) Smith of Farmington, Kyla (Aaron) Morales of Farmington, Megan Smith of De Soto, Landon and Griffin Porter of De Soto and Emma and Carter Drew of Barnhart; several cousins; an uncle and aunt: John and Karen Smith of Cordova, Tenn.; and a special neighbor and friend: Tammy Pona of De Soto. She was preceded in death by a son: Robert Andrew Porter; four grandparents: Frieda Willet Wilson, Stanley Wyman Haverstick, Virginia Haverstick and Rose Sansoucie Smith; three great-grandparents: Maude and Ray Willett and Lawrence Sansoucie; and a brother-in-law: Charlie Beers Jr.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 14, at the Peaceful Ridge Cemetery in De Soto, officiated by the Rev. Dr. G. Michael Rose. Memorials may be made to the Say Something Foundation, 415 Saratoga Dr., De Soto 63020. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
