Lynn E. Gideon, 86, of De Soto died Sept. 25, 2017, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Gideon was the owner and operator of Gideon Excavating and was a member of Oakland Baptist Church in De Soto. Born Oct. 10, 1930, in De Soto, he was the son of the late Henry E. and Nettie Jane (Rowden) Gideon.
He is survived by his wife: Mary C. “Pete” (Bequette) Gideon of De Soto; three children: Kevin (Pam Long) Ponzar of Victoria, Lorie (Bruce) Blaylock of Olympian Village and Karen (Keith) Newbury of Richwoods; eight grandchildren: John (Julie), Jennifer, Tosca (Jimmy), Brent (Maddy), Kyle (Meagan), Sarah (Adam), Joshua (Bella), and Garrett; and 14 great-grandchildren: Zoey, Isaiah, Savannah, Rory, Alexia, Ruthie, Avery, Cheyenne, Nevaeh, Dominic, Ayden, Elijah, Presley and Easton.
He was preceded in death by 10 siblings: Ruth (John) Oldham, Norma (William) Dover, Lois (Eli) Huskey, Mae (Lester) Williamson, Celeste (Floyd) Farrow, Donald Lee Gideon, Ira Ray Gideon, Myron Clare Gideon, Laverne Gideon and George Gideon; and one great-granddaughter: Aubrey.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, at the funeral home, Pastor Ron Barton officiating. Burial is in the Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
