Lucille A. Merseal Guenther, 93, of De Soto died Jan. 18, 2018, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mrs. Guenther worked at Spring Factory and the De Soto Shoe Factory. Born Dec. 13, 1924, in Bliss, she was the daughter of the late Rosie (Coleman) and Henry Boyer and the stepdaughter of the late Kenneth Silvey. She was preceded in death by two husbands: Everett J. Merseal and Lilburn Guenther.
She is survived by two children: Kenneth (Julia) Merseal of De Soto and Everett Benny (Marsha) Merseal of Old Mines; six siblings: Cynthia O’Neal, Margaret Yarbrough, Rita (Ed) Seyfarth, John (Grace) Boyer, Everett (Diane) Boyer and Virginia Schutte, all of De Soto; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son: Freddie Merseal; four sisters: Louise Mendenhall, Elizabeth Bourbon, Theresa Sampson and Cecelia Coleman; a brother: Joe Boyer; seven brothers-in-law: Jim O’Neal, Art Yarbrough, Joseph Schutte, Anthony “Bob” Schutte, Robert Bourbon, John Sampson and Joe Coleman; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral Mass was held Jan. 23 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in De Soto, officiated by Father Alexander Anderson. Burial was in the St. Stephen’s Parish Cemetery in Richwoods. Arrangements were under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
