Lorentz “Butch” Schmidt III, 76, of High Ridge died May 15, 2020. Mr. Schmidt retired from a career as a steelworker, but after two years his active and hardworking lifestyle brought him back to his favorite job at Farm and Home Supply. He loved the outdoors and spent his free time riding bikes and fishing. He was a jokester, a prankster and a one-of-a-kind person who never met a stranger. Born Sept. 28, 1943, in Wichita, Kan., he was the son of the late Wenzel and Betty (Smith) Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Diane (Berend) Schmidt; three sons: Gregory Schmidt, Geoffrey (Shana) Schmidt, and Timothy (Crystal) Schmidt; eight grandchildren: Stephanie, Atlas, Gabriel, Jennifer, Jakob, Joshua, Caleb and Adrianna; a brother: Dave (Linda) Smith; two sisters: Sue (Ray) Leber and Betsy (Bob) Hagensieker; and many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law: Jamie Schmidt; and a brother: Mike Schmidt.
Arrangements were under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary in Cedar Hill.
