Lorene M. Gilbert, 91, of De Soto died Feb. 2, 2019, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mrs. Gilbert was a homemaker. She loved feeding and watching backyard wildlife and visiting her family, friends and neighbors. She enjoyed indoor gardening and reading and watching Western books and movies. Born Jan. 16, 1928, in Williamsville, she was the daughter of the late Gracie Melinda (Thompson) and Clarence Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband: Ernest Gilbert.
She is survived by three children: Barbara (Joseph Kyle) Gilbert of Bonne Terre, Linda (Dan) Butler of Fredericktown and John (Kendall) Gilbert of De Soto; a “daughter-in-heart”: Julia (Chris) Hampton; a sister-in-law: Doris Gilbert of Iowa; eight grandchildren: Trevor Dow, Robert Kyle, Amy (Michael) Sparks, Annie (Chris) Kemp, Dennis Butler, Madeline Gilbert, Mitch Gilbert and Miranda Gilbert; seven great-grandchildren: Gunner Dow, Dane Butler, Newt Kemp, Gage Pryor, Kaelyb Pryor, Guy (Beka) Stillwell and Ashley Stillwell; two great-great-grandchildren: Addie and Liam Stillwell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son: Bryan Gilbert; and five siblings: Edmond (Elizabeth) Jones; Lindel (Anna Mae) Jones, Norvel (Virginia) Jones, Nina (Jack) Landau and Virginia (William) Courtaway.
Private graveside services were held at Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to the Bryan Gilbert Memorial Scholarship, c/o the Jefferson College Foundation, 1000 Viking Dr., Hillsboro 63050. Arrangements were under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
