Larry Allen Pitzer, 42, of Moyock, N.C., formerly of De Soto, died Dec. 26, 2019, at his home. Mr. Pitzer was a chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy stationed at the Naval Air Station Oceana. He was a talented singer and received multiple awards in high school for his singing, including All-State Honors. At 23, he joined the Navy and completed basic training at the Great Lakes Naval Station in Chicago, Ill., where he received the Navy League Award. He went on to complete Navy A-School in Pensacola, Fla., and began his career as an aviation electronics technician. In 2007, he was selected to be a member of the Blue Angels and served four years as part of the flight demonstration team. In 2016, he earned the rank of chief petty officer.
Born Feb. 16, 1977, he was the son of Marietta (Dean) Johnson of Byrnes Mill and Larry (Dante) Pitzer Sr. of Ste. Genevieve.
He is survived by his wife: Amanda-Lee; two sons: Ethan and Jacob; his parents-in-law: Larry and Georgia Burda of Chesapeake, Va.; a brother: Brian (Jennifer) Pitzer of Arnold; five stepsiblings: Carmen (Josh) Flowers, Rebecca (Joe) Simino, Amanda (Steven) Reeder, Nicole (Brandon) Lalumondiere and Andria Reyes; five nephews: Tyson Pitzer, Brantley Pitzer, Bryce Flowers, Kian Simino and Graham Reeder; and four nieces: Kadence Simino, Kaylee Simino, Trista Flowers and Nora Grace Reeder.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at the First Baptist Church of De Soto, 2000 Grace Way, followed by a visitation.
