Lightner, Katherine

Katherine Marie “Kay” Lightner, 92, of De Soto died May 14, 2018, at Baisch Nursing Center in De Soto. Mrs. Lightner was a teacher for the Hazelwood School District and a member of St. Stephen Protomartyr Catholic Church. She enjoyed being involved with the church and working with the children and loved traveling to Branson with her husband. Born Jan. 22, 1926, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of Leonard and Annie (Flannigan) Dell.

She is survived by her husband: William “Bill” Lightner of De Soto; three sons: Stephen (Mary) Ford of Florissant, Dan Ford of St. Charles and Tim Ford of Hazelwood; two daughters: Barb (Ron) Zika of Florissant and Ann (Larry) King of Wentzville; three stepsons: William Lightner of St. Louis, Brian (Katherine) Lightner and Gerry (Christine) Lightner of O’Fallon; a sister: Betty (Walter) Sowa of Michigan; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter: Debbie Kramer; and three siblings: Leo Dell, Tim Dell and Lorraine Knoll.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Monday, May 21, at Mahn Funeral Home, 900 N. Main St., in De Soto. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at St. Stephen Promartyr Catholic Church, 3929 Wilmington Ave., in St. Louis, officiated by Father Ron Hopmeir. Burial is in the Mount Olive Cemetery in Lemay. Memorials may be made to Cardinal Glennon Childrens Hospital, 3800 Park Ave., St. Louis, 63110. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home.
