Jonathan B. Basler, 36, of Festus died Dec. 17, 2017, at his home. In his youth, Mr. Basler was active in Boy Scouts and sports, earning a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and playing as a baseball catcher and a soccer and hockey goalie. He attended Kemper Military Academy and graduated from Oakville High School in 2003, then earned an associate degree from Jefferson College and attended the University of Missori in St. Louis. Born Oct. 5, 1981, in St. Louis County, he was the son of Phyllis (Perryman) and Bradford Basler of Festus.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother: Joshua Phillip Basler of Festus; a sister: Sarah Elizabeth (Andrew) Shehata of Crystal City; and two nieces: Kimberly and Juliah Basler.
Memorial visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 West Main St., in Festus. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Sacred Heart Church in Crystal City, officiated by Father Clark Maes. Burial is in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crystal City.
