John William “Bill” Rasmussen, 90 of Shawnee, Kan., formerly of De Soto, died Nov. 10, 2018, in Kansas City. Mr. Rasmussen served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Mount Olive Methodist Church of De Soto and the De Soto Lions. An avid historian, he enjoyed picking and cracking walnuts, hunting and fishing. He was born Feb. 25, 1928, in Doniphan, the son of the late Elmer and Harriette (Snyder) Rasmussen.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years: Donna Mae (Hampton) Rasmussen; three daughters: Karen (Robert) Copeland of Plano, Texas, Donna Kay Rasmussen of Edwardsville, Ill., and Kathy (Michael) Calcara of Shawnee; seven grandchildren: Andrew, Kate, Will, Alan, Heather, Emily and Kat; and a great-granddaughter: Nora Mae.
He was preceded in death by a son: Jon Rasmussen.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Mahn Funeral Home, 900 N. Main St., in De Soto, followed immediately by a memorial service. Memorials may be made to the De Soto Lions, 547 Vineland School Road, De Soto MO 63020, or Mount Olive Methodist Church, 13675 Mount Olive Road, De Soto MO 63020. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home.
