John “Jake” Martinez, 34, of Granite City, Ill., died Oct. 21, 2018, in East St. Louis, Ill. Mr. Martinez was a meat cutter at Schnucks. Born May 14, 1984, in St. Louis, he was the son of John (Dawn) Martinez Jr. and the late Kelly R. (Holtman) Matthews, who had lived in Arnold.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife: Shanna (Dioneda) Martinez of Granite City, Ill.; three children: Vallyn, Laila and Jacob of Granite City, Ill.; one brother: Shawn Matthews of Granite City, Ill.; two sisters: Jessica Martinez of Springfield and Megan Starnes of Granite City, Ill.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by three grandparents: Harry and Violet Holtman and Elizabeth Still Smoking.
Funeral services will be at noon Friday, Oct. 26, at Kutis Funeral Home, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, in south St. Louis County. Burial will be at ShepherdHillsCemetery in Barnhart. Memorials may be made to Shanna for his children. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis Funeral Home.
