Skaggs, john

John G. Skaggs, 81, of Herculaneum, formerly of Festus, died Oct. 31, 2017, in Herculaneum. Mr. Skaggs worked in the personnel department at General Motors and worked for Lemme Funeral Home. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of American Legion Post 253, Twin City Amvets Post 171 and VFW Post 3777. He also enjoyed fishing, dancing, music and shooting matches, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. Born Oct. 20, 1936, in Crystal City, he was the son of the late Wendell and Sadie (Brown) Skaggs.

He is survived by his wife: Janet (Kennedy) Skaggs of Herculaneum; three daughters: Donna (Scott) Higgins of Wildwood, Racheal (Tim) Ramsey of Keller, Texas, and Gail (Doug Zumach) Skaggs of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three stepchildren: Watson “Buddy” Akins of Herculaneum, Kenny (Wendy Miller) Akins of Byrnes Mill and Tammy (Barry) Burley of De Soto; two sisters: Trula Skaggs of Festus and Faye (Bud) Oldham of Pevely; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Wayne and Lionel.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at Mahn Twin City Chapel, 515 Collins Ave., in Festus. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Nov 6, at the funeral home, officiated by Klint Oldham. Burial is in the Brown Cemetery in Perryville. Memorials may be made to American Legion Post 253. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel.
