John “Bud” Dorlac, 84, of De Soto died June 22, 2014, in Bonne Terre. Mr. Dorlac was a self-employed automotive mechanic and a member of St. Rose of Lima Church in De Soto. He was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army and a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus Council 1185 and VFW Post 1831 in De Soto. He enjoyed traveling, helping at the KC Hall, volunteering with Meals on Wheels and playing dominoes and cards with friends. Born July 28, 1929, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late William and Adele (Stutte) Dorlac.
He is survived by his wife: Dorothy (Cordia) Dorlac of De Soto, whom he married on Aug. 28, 1982, in Richwoods; five sons: Edward Dorlac, Paul Dorlac, Raymond (Jackie) Dorlac, Albert Dorlac and Tom (Vicki) Haynes; six daughters: Joanne (Rich) Berger, Mary Ellen Lambing, Rita Fechner, Adele (Mike) Hollingsworth, Phyllis (Jeff) Alexander and Jackie (James) Juliette; one brother: Jerry (Pat) Dorlac; two sisters: Mary Kay Kromm and Jeanne (Tom) Sweeney; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his former wife: Florence Dorlac; a daughter: Delores Dorlac Thebeau; four sisters: Mary Rosaleen Dorlac, Wilma Basler, Marie McDonough and Elizabeth Politte; and two brothers: William Dorlac and Edward Dorlac.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, at Mahn De Soto Chapel, 900 N. Main, in De Soto. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 26, at St. Rose of Lima Church, officiated by the Rev. Alexander Anderson. Burial is in the Calvary Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to the Adopt-An-Angel program at St. Rose of Lima Church; to the Special Olympics; or to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home.
