John Barton Morrison Sr., 76, Lake City, Fla., formerly of De Soto and Panama City, Fla., died Dec. 11, 2014, at University of Florida Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. Mr. Morrison was an Army veteran who was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and Moose Legion No. 81 and American Legion Post 57 in Lake City, the Morocco Shrine in Jacksonville, Fla., and Amvets Post 48, Masonic Lodge No. 119 and Elks Lodge No. 689, all in De Soto, and the Festus-Crystal City Eagles. While he lived for 25 years in De Soto, he was a member of the De Soto School District’s Board of Education. Born Feb. 22, 1938, in Jacksonville, Fla., he was the son of the late Fred P. and Lecile (Barton) Morrison.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years: Patricia Morrison; two daughters: Denise Johnston of Festus and Kim (Jim) Armstrong of De Soto; four sons: John Morrison Jr. of De Soto, Robert Morrison of Festus, Kevin (Julie) Morrison of Festus and Christopher (Jennifer) Morrison of Festus; a stepson: Jeff (Josey) Scowden of Dexter; a brother: Fred (Sherry) Morrison of McAlpin, Fla.; a sister: Judy (Jim) Gartman of Panama City, Fla.; 14 grandchildren: Ronald Jr., Brooke and Baileigh Johnston, Lauren and Brendan Hammock, Charlie Armstrong and Kaylee, Chloe, Ross, Jack and Crosby Morrison, Sidney Scowden, Ashlee (Eugene) Powers and Jaden Kozloski; seven great-grandchildren: Chase and Caydence Graves, Hank and Gentry Johnston, Carlee Dobbs and Mason and Sawyer Powers; and four pets: Mick, Bailey, Captain and the late Sassy.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at Amvets Post 48, Hwy. 21 and Amvets Drive, in De Soto. Memorials may be made to the 18 FORE Life Foundation, 705 Laurie Circle, Dexter MO 63841.
