Joel Denvel Mathes, 79, Ironton
Joel Denvel Mathes, 79, of Ironton died May 2, 2021. Mr. Mathes grew up in Jefferson County and moved to Pinellas Park, Fla., and then the Lake of the Ozarks before settling in Ironton. He worked for many years for Sporlan Valve Co. and Bommarito Nissan. He was a member of the Black River Baptist Church in Black. He was a former of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed deer hunting, spending time at the lake and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and his best friend, Thor. Born July 28, 1941, in Black, he was the son of the late Ottis Mathes and LaNell (Tucker) Mathes Schmidt.
He is survived by two daughters: Angela Marie (Chris) Carroll of Arnold and Carrie Justine (Denny) Gilkey of Fenton; two sisters: Sherryl (Alvin) White of Ironton and Sherrie (Joe) Eaton of Fredericktown; four grandchildren: Kyra and Logan Herbig and Bryce and Blane Carroll; and many other family and friends.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers: Denver and Greg Mathes; and a sister: Billie Sandra Dunn.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday (May 6) at McSpadden Funeral Home, 33424 Hwy. 21, in Lesterville. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday (May 7) at the funeral home, officiated by Elder Danny Mathes. Pallbearers will be Chris, Bryce and Blane Carroll, Denny Gilkey, and Kyra and Logan Herbig. Burial will be in Myers Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of McSpadden Funeral Home, Lesterville.
