Joe L. Kastner, 80, of Eureka died Monday, October 19, 2020, at St. Louis University Hospital. Mr. Kastner was a carpenter and locksmith by trade and loved to build things. He served in the U.S. Army for more than 3 years and retired from Washington University after 33 years. He loved fishing, camping, watching and reading good westerns, gardening and working in his yard. Mostly he enjoyed his little rescue dog, Buddy, who he loved very much. Mr. Kastner was born Jan. 24, 1940, in St. Louis. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years: Karen Kastner.
He is survived by six children: Donna (Greg) Mowery of Catawissa, Vicki (Darren) Kettenacker of Eureka, Jeff Rutledge of St. Louis, Tim (Tammy) Kastner of Fenton, Eric (Brandi) Kastner of Festus and Karl (Vicki) Kastner of Eureka; 17 grandchildren: James (Lizzy), Jeremy (Amber), Justin (Ashley), Erica (Andy), Jaclyn, Tori, Emily, Cade, Alex, Jakob, Brittany, Karra and Simon; and eight great-grandchildren: Ben, Braden, Jaden, Emmett, Carson, Kylee, Ashlynn and Hunter.
A private graveside service will be held at Mount Olive Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Stray Rescue of St. Louis. Arrangements were under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home in Ballwin.
