JoAnn Marie Carle, 85, of south St. Louis County died Dec. 17, 2020, at her home. Mrs. Carle was retired from the Lindbergh School District after teaching in the elementary and junior high schools for 30 years. She had been a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association and St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church in Sappington. Born Feb. 24, 1935, in Carlyle, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Martha (Zahn) and John Niehoff.
She is survived by her husband: Arthur “Art” Carle of south St. Louis County; a daughter: Linda (Larry) Lehr of Oakville; a son: Kevin (Peggy) Carle of Festus; six grandchildren: Kevin Buss, Jaquelyn Buss, Scott Buss, Stephanie Carle, Jennifer (Ben) Hendrix and Joseph Carle; a great-granddaughter: Adelyn Hendrix, with a great-grandson on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Jean (the late Fred) Brenner and Jackie (the late Joseph) Bruemmer; a brother: Bob (the late Louise) Niehoff; and a granddaughter: Amy Buss.
Private family services were held. Burial was in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements were under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
