Jimmy “Pop” Hayes, 81, of High Ridge died Sept. 21, 2019. Mr. Hayes served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed fishing, watching wrestling, walks by the river and going to garage sales and thrift stores. Born Jan. 11, 1938, in Rockwood, Ill., he was the son of the late Laura (Moses) and Arthur Hayes.
He is survived by his wife: Joyce (Kiefer) Hayes; four children: Penney (Bob) Reckerd, Darrell Hayes, David (Gail) Hayes and Carl (Karen) Hayes; 10 grandchildren: Juley, Jamie, Crystal, Nathan, Jared, Mark, Christina, Jessie, Clayton and Samantha; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother: Eual (Brenda) Hayes; and other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by six siblings: Floyd Hayes, Olen Hayes, Homer Hayes, Herschel Hayes, Jackie Hayes and Fern Hayes.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks, 2900 Sheridan Road, in south St. Louis County. Memorials may be made to the American Stroke Foundation, 6405 Metcalf Ave. No. 214, Overland Park KS 66202. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary, Cedar Hill.
