Jeffrey Wayne Dettmer, 74, of Festus died March 4, 2021, at home. Mr. Dettmer proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crystal City. Before retiring, he was a math teacher for the Festus R-6 School District. He was an avid photographer and particularly enjoyed being the ‘unofficial’ Festus High School photographer for many years. Born April 11, 1946, in Ironton, he was the son of the late Clarence F. and Lorene (Crocker) Dettmer.
He is survived by his wife: Karen (Villanueva) Dettmer of Festus; three sons: Lynn (Angie) Dettmer of Festus, Michael (Danielle) Dettmer of Wichita, Kan., and Scott Dettmer of Little Rock, Ark.; one daughter: Kim (Mike) Hall of Pineville; three brothers: Jerry (Mary Lou) Dettmer of Laurie, James (Ann) Dettmer of Ballwin and Joe (Carla) Dettmer of Overland Park, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many other relatives, friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be from 5- 8 p.m. Tuesday (March 9) at Mahn Funeral Home Twin City Chapel, 515 Collins Ave., in Festus. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday (March 10) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 555 Bailey Road, in Crystal City, officiated by Father Saji Mathew Cheruparambil. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the Festus High School Booster Club, 1515 Mid-Meadow Lane, Festus, 63028. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel.
