Jean Marie Roehrs, 69, of Bethany, Ill., formerly of Festus, died Jan. 27, 2017, at her home. Mrs. Roehrs worked as a kitchen manager with Camp Don Bosco in Hillsboro and later became a shoe model and switchboard operator for the Hamilton Shoe Co. in St. Louis. She also worked for both Kroger and Shop ’n Save in Crystal City and was a receptionist in the medical offices of Dr. Foy in Imperial and Dr. Edward J. Miles in Hillsboro. She was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal City and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, flowers, cooking, baking, fishing, tubing and sewing. Born Jan. 19, 1948, in De Soto, she was the daughter of the late Nana May (Lewis) and William J. Goetz.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years: James J. Roehrs; four children: Sr. Chief Petty Officer James Aaron (Jamie) Roehrs of Suffolk, Va., Kelly Ann (Rob) King of Herculaneum, Melissa Gail (Charles) Eaton of St. Peters and Grant William (Pennie) Roehrs of Sullivan, Ill.; and 14 grandchildren: Kathryn, Tyler, Luke, Logan, Drew, Lanora, Larissa, Justin, Bailey, Kyla, Alex, Christian, Rylee and Colin. She was preceded in death by two brothers: James Goetz and infant Joseph Goetz.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main, in Festus. Visitation is at 10 a.m. and a funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 220 Brierton Lane, in Crystal City, officiated by the Rev. Kyle Castens. Burial is in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
