Janet Rose Almond, 81, of Salem, formerly of Pevely, died April 25, 2019, at Festus Manor Nursing Center. Mrs. Almond was a retired nurse who worked at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Crystal City, St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County and Salem Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Alpine Baptist Church in Barnhart, First Baptist Church and New Home Baptist Church in Salem. Born Jan. 15, 1938, in Maplewood, she was the daughter of the late Lula (Whitaker) and Wayne Ivan Edwards.
She is survived by her husband: James Edward Almond; four daughters: Ruth (Mitchell) Rowden of Crystal City, Karen (Keith) Woodland of Hillsboro, Linda (Faron) Ferguson of Bloomfield, Iowa, and Cheryl (Shane) Gearhart of Salem; four sons: Brad (JoElla) Almond of Festus, Greg (Patricia) Long of Festus, Russell (Len) Long of St. Robert and Barry (fiance JoAnn Marion) Almond of Maryland Heights; 19 grandchildren: Corinna (Rich) Kremmer, Nicholas (Rachel) Rowden, Alicia (Kevin) Pearson, Bradley (Amy) Almond, Joshua (Amanda) Long, Matthew (Sara Giocolo) Long, Keith (Jennifer) Woodland, Alan Woodland, Miranda Ferguson, Marcus Ferguson, Justin (Kelly Shoemaker) Almond, Aimee LaRue, Ashlee (Mason) Roper, William Gearhart, Wyatt Gearhart, Brendan Almond, Haylyn Almond, Angie (Doug) Sanderson and Cassidy (Jared) Guzman; a granddaughter-in-law: Shannon Rowden; a brother-in-law: Julius “Sonny” Biggs of Troy, Ill.; and 19 great-grandchildren: Jordan, Kaci, Trenton, Braden, Carly and Isabella Rowden, Kree and Elli Kremmer, Bentley Almond, Elijah Long, Ryker-James, Pearl and Jennings Woodland, Talula Pearl LaRue, Bryar and Booker Roper, Alex Petri, Piper Sanderson and Michael (Sadie) Gearhart.
She was preceded in death by a son: Wayne Long; a grandson: Philip “Chip” Rowden; a great-granddaughter: Preslee Renee LaRue; three sisters: Geraldine Shaw, Betty Henson and JoAnn Biggs; and three brothers: Max, Donald and Eugene Edwards.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 29, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus, officiated by Pastor Chuck Henderson. Burial will be in Herculaneum City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home, Festus.
