Janet Michelle Swyers Owens, 66, of Dittmer died Feb. 9, 2017, at her home. Mrs. Owens enjoyed swimming, snorkeling, traveling, being at the beach and collecting sea shells and mermaids. She was born July 11, 1950, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Ernest and Ruby (Wright) Swyers.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years: Tom Owens; five children; Michelle (Erik) Menz of Arnold, Kelly (Kevin) Coplin of Columbia, Ill., Aaron (Dana Niere) Owens of Pacific, Angela Owens of Dittmer and Joshua (Misty) Owens of Dittmer; 11 grandchildren: Kayleena “Me-Kayla” (Austin) Kuster, Erik “Ross” Menz, Emeline “Emma” Menz, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Coplin, Trevor Lee Coplin, Kristina Owens, Julia Michelle “Shug,” Laura Jane, Jonathon Isaiah, Steven Lee and Isabella “Bella” Marie; and nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by four siblings: Richard (Maryann) Swyers, Marion Swyers, Lillian (Sherman) Atherton and Sonja (Gene) Arnell.
A memorial service will be held later. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were under the direction of the Cremation Society of St. Louis, Kirkwood.
