James William Lechner Sr., 72, Richwoods

James William Lechner Sr., 72, of Richwoods died April 6, 2021, at his home. Mr. Lechner served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and earned the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars. After that, he worked as a skilled auto body technician until retiring. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, and he enjoyed listening to music, watching movies (with popcorn), camping, fishing and watching his grandchildren play baseball. Born April 16, 1948, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Robert C. and Genevieve G. (Crowe) Lechner.

He is survived by three sons: James (Dana) Lechner Jr. of Columbia, Ill., Brian (Sarah) Lechner of Waterloo, Ill., and Joey (Angela) Lechner of Sarasota, Fla.; two daughters: Samantha (Eric Goforth) Jones of Hillsboro and Jessica (Shawn) Holland of Richwoods; two sisters: Cathy (Barry) Dennis of De Soto and Deborah (Cody Blair) Black of Bonne Terre; and several grand-children and great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

He also was preceded in death by a son: Danny McIntyre; a daughter: Nichole Hensley; a sister: Sandy Lechner; and a nephew: Jeremy Dennis.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the funeral services at noon Tuesday (April 13) at Mahn Funeral Home, 900 N. Main St., in DeSoto. Burial with full military honors will follow in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Mahn Funeral Home.
