James Edgar “Jim” Kluempers, 92, of Cedar Hill died July 12, 2021. At the end of World War II, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed at Pearl Harbor, assigned to the Base Military Police Unit. Following his discharge from the Navy, he began a 43-year career as a letter carrier with the U.S Postal Service. He was active in the Letter Carrier Union, serving as shop steward for many years.
Mr. Kluempers also was a life member of the Cedar Hill VFW, serving many years as service officer and chaplain. He enjoyed organic gardening, reading and barbecues with family and friends. Born March 8, 1929, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Edgar and Catherine (Kenney) Kluempers.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years: Anna M. (Burbon) Kluempers; six children: Michael J. Kluempers, Katherine (Elbert) Cook, Patricia (Mike) McCummiskey, Jane Stroud, Diane (Kevin) Moore and James W. Kluempers; 15 grandchildren: Michael Kluempers, Kevin (Tiffany) Kluempers, Stephen (Brittany) Kluempers, William (Dave Onescu) Kluempers and Jennifer Kluempers, Lisa (Nick) Meyer, Katie (Brian) Kinworthy, Jeremy (Melissa) Cook, Amy (Jeremy Miller) Cook, Elizabeth (Joshua) Weseman, Joshua Cook, Leslie (Tyler Roth) Schwend, Zachary Stroud, Colin Moore and Ethan Moore; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother: Thomas (Shirley) Kluempers.
He was preceded in death by a son Paul J. Kluempers.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Sunday (July 18) at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois Road, in Affton. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (July 19) at the funeral home. Burial will be in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the USO or the Salvation Army. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis Funeral Home.
