James A. Chappell, 71, De Soto

James Alan Chappell, 71, of De Soto died Oct. 12, 2021, at Hillcrest Care Facility in De Soto. Mr. Chappell served in the U.S. Army for 10 years after graduating from Shadle Park High School in Spokane, Wash. He served in Germany and various bases in the U.S. and a tour in South Korea. His most notable job was a cosmetologist and owner of Chappell’s Beauty Salon in Hillsboro. Born Sept. 11, 1950, in Vallejo, Calif., he was the son of the late Allan (Geraldine) Chappell and June Mastne of Spokane, Wash.

He is survived by his daughter: Jaime Chappell of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandsons: Seth Sumner and Darian Chappell, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight siblings: Rana Miley of Spokane, Wash., Pamela Luetkemeyer of Lithia, Fla., Karen (Charles) Miller of De Soto, Melvyn Mastne of Anacortes, Wash., Geraldine Douthit of Bangkok, Thailand, Mary (Mike) Wilding of Vancouver, Wash., Kip (Lisa) Chappell of Deer Park, Wash., and Tori Walker of Las Vegas, Ariz.; and many other family members.

A memorial service will be held later. Burial will be in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks.
