Harmon, Howard

Howard Haines Harmon, 89, formerly of Herculaneum, died May 6, 2016, at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis County. Mr. Harmon was a teacher and counselor at Herculaneum High School. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and Army Air Force, a member of the Joachim Golf Club, a former member of the Jefferson County Developmental Disabilities Resource Board and a former longtime board chairman of the Missouri Protection and Advocacy Council. Born Dec. 13, 1926, in Campbell, he was the son of the late Bertha J. (Partain) and George W. Harmon.

He is survived by his wife: Dixana “Dixie” (Dunnington) Harmon; two daughters: Sandra Ann (Charles) Mader of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Lisa Gail Minnihan of Maryland Heights; a son: George “Eric” Harmon of Arnold; two brothers: Roger Post (Dallas) Harmon of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and John O. (Linda) Harmon of Clarksville; and one grandson: Shaun Minnihan. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Fay Johnston, Clorah Johnson and Joyce Underwood; and one brother: Robert (the late Lou) Harmon.

Visitation is scheduled at 4 p.m. and a funeral service at 6 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Vinyard Hillcrest Funeral Home, 9115 Commercial Blvd, in Pevely. Memorials may be made to Next Step for Life Residential, P.O. Box 97, Mapaville, 63065. Arrangements were under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
