Herman James Eggers, 79, Poplar Bluff
Herman James Eggers, 79, of Poplar Bluff died Dec. 27, 2022, at his home. Mr. Eggers graduated from Neelyville High School in 1961 and from the School of the Ozarks in 1963 and the University of Missouri in 1965. He completed a master’s degree in agricultural economics from the University of Missouri in 1971. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968 during which he was posted in Fort Belvoir, Va. Following his honorable discharge, he worked in the Farm Credit System for 25 years and retired as vice president of CoBank. During retirement he farmed with his brother near Harviell and Neelyville for more than 20 years. He traveled to all 50 states and he particularly enjoyed traveling to Colorado to ski and to Florida for shelling.
Born Oct. 1, 1943, in Poplar Bluff, he was the son of the late Herman and Frieda Mae (Smith) Eggers.
He is survived by his wife: Geneva Lucille (Robbins) Eggers, whom he married In June 1965. He also is survived by two daughters: Lynn (the Rev. Kendall) Eggers-Meyer and Brenda (Dr. Jerry) Bruggeman; six grandchildren: Christian, Caleb and Colin Bruggeman, and Michaela, Benjamin and Abigail Meyer; two siblings: Joyce Eakins and Richard (Patricia Ann) Eggers; and a brother-in-law: Orville Duane Allen.
He was preceded in death by a sibling: Alice Geraldine Allen; and wo brothers-in-law: Charles Newman and Kenny Eakins.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services, 1100 Iron Bridge Road, in Poplar Bluff. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at Zion Lutheran Church, 450 N. Main St., in Poplar Bluff, officiated by the Rev. Justin Sponaugle. Burial will be in Poplar Bluff City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the College of the Ozarks of Zion Lutheran Church of Poplar Bluff. Arrangements are under the direction of Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services.
