Helen Joyce (Freiner) Smith, 81, of Arnold, formerly of St. Louis, died Nov. 13, 2017, at home. Mrs. Smith was retired from InterCity Manufacturing after working there for 25 years. She enjoyed sewing, reading historical romance novels, playing bingo, watching television and spending time with family.
Born May 5, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Catherine (Teresa) and John Freiner. She was preceded in death by her husband: Harlan R. Smith.
She is survived by two daughters: Sharon Ann Martin-Ijames and Barbara Joyce Chumley, both of Arnold; two sons-in-law: James Ijames and James Chumley, both of Arnold; five grandchildren: Mike J. Smith, Stephen Martin, Christy Taylor, Jamie Chumley and Jennifer Ijames; seven great-grandchildren: Michael R. Smith, Olivia Taylor, Isaiah Campbell, Madison Taylor, Jalen Campbell, Aurianna Snow and Evan Taylor; two siblings: James Freiner of Affton and Katherine Freiner-Metzler of Louisiana; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: John and Robert Freiner.
Funeral services were Nov. 16 at Kutis South County Chapel in St. Louis County. Burial was in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Arrangements were under the direction of Kutis Funeral Home.
