Hazel Overy, 92, of Cedar Hill died June 19, 2019, in Cedar Hill. Mrs. Overy worked as a switchboard operator for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. before becoming a bookkeeper. She was a roller skater and an avid organic gardener who enjoyed playing softball, feeding birds, reading, crossword puzzles and swing dancing with her husband. Born in 1926, in Sappington, she was the daughter of Martha (Mertz) and William Spitz.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Fred Overy.
She is survived by two sons: Craig (Christie) Overy and Randy Overy; eight grandchildren: Eric Parrish, James Turner, Jody (Anthony) Alt, Gabe Overy, Laura Turner, Brendan Overy, Adam Overy and Allison Overy; 15 nieces; great-grandchildren and other members and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter: Jane Overy-Burgett; and six siblings: Clay, Milton, William and Ralph Spitz, Ethyl Bishop and Rosie Seemeyerz.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, June 24, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. Service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mount Lebanon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 9370 Olive Blvd., St. Louis MO 63132. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
