Kappler, Gloria

Gloria J. Kappler, 93, of Hematite died July 22, 2018, at Baisch Nursing Center in De Soto. Mrs. Kappler was a 54-year member and longtime Sunday school teacher at Hematite Christian Church in Hematite. She also had worked in the St. Louis Munitions Plant during World War II. Born Nov. 16, 1924, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Willie Mae (Gerkin) and Thomas Bressmer Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband: Warren Charles Kappler.

She is survived by three sons: Gary Kappler, Clay (Barbara) Kappler and Douglas (Charissa) Kappler, all of Festus; a sister-in-law: Doris Bressmer of St. Louis; six grandchildren: Josh Kappler, Katie (Mike) Brandt, Zachary (Rachelle) Kappler, Rachel Kappler, Alyssa (Matthew) Gallion and Hallie (fiance Matthew Cheney) Kappler; and eight great-grandchildren: Kobe Berry, Finn Benser, Collyn Brandt, Matilda Brandt, Laylah Kappler, Liam Kappler, Payden Kappler and Callum Kappler.

She was preceded in death by two brothers: Tom Bressmer and Joseph Bressmer; a sister: Rosie (the late Jerry) Dahlheimer; and two grandchildren: Jacob Benjamin Kappler and Shiloh Kappler.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Visitation is at 9 a.m. and a funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Hematite Christian Church, officiated by Pastor Philip Wallace. Burial is in the Hematite Christian Cemetery in Hematite. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
