Geraldine Marie “Gee Gee” Herrell, 93, of Sulphur Springs died Sept. 6, 2021, at her home. Mrs. Herrell was a 70-year member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Imperial. She was born Oct. 10, 1927, in Festus, the daughter of the late Estelle Clara (Sewald) and George August Kassen. She was preceded in death by her husband: Warren “Whiz” Herrell.
She is survived by three sons: John “Randy” Herrell of Sulphur Springs, Michael (Tracey) Herrell of St. Clair and David (the late Pamela) Herrell of Herculaneum; two daughters: Cathy (Allen) McCarthy of Festus and Terry (Kelly) Hamilton of Barnhart; five grandchildren: Russell (Chelsea) Herrell, Nicole (Michael) Mellon, Meaghan (Zach) Frank, Sydney Hamilton and Connor Hamilton; four great-grandchildren: Rhett Mellon, Kain Mellon, Makenna Frank and Blaine Frank; a brother: Raymond (Alicia) Kassen of Festus; two sisters-in-law: Evelyn “Dee Dee” (the late Ron) Herrell of Imperial and Fern (the late Ron) Bone of Herculaneum; three brothers-in-law: Tom (Adelaide) Herrell of Imperial, Gene (Patti) Herrell of Union and Joe (the late Kathy) Herrell of Imperial; and dear friend and neighbor Betty Lou McBroom of Sulphur Springs.
She was preceded in death by a sister: Betty (the late L.J. “Sonny”) Becker; and two brothers: Richard Carl “Dick” (the late Norma) Kassen and Robert E. “Bob” (the late Georgia Fay) Kassen.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until a funeral Mass at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Imperial, officiated by Father Dan Shaughnessy. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School in Imperial or to the Lancer Endowment at St. Pius X High School (LEAP). Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
