Thornton, george

George Eugene Thornton, 85, of De Soto died Oct. 21, 2016, at the Villas in De Soto. Mr. Thornton was a blast furnace foreman with the Doe Run Co. He also served in the U.S. Air Force for 10 years. Born Sept. 3, 1931, in French Village, he was the son of William “Bunn” and Florence “Marie” (Askew) Thornton. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Shirlene (Bess) Thornton.

He is survived by his wife: Bonnie Jo (Lowry) Thornton of De Soto; six children: Jeff (Darla) Thornton of Seguin, Texas; Georgeann (Mike) Nitzband of New Braunfels, Texas; Jim (Barb) Thornton of Kingsbury, Texas; Missy (Dave) Doss of Seguin; Joe (Dee Dee) Thornton of Seguin; and Donna (Gary) Deharde of Seguin; four stepchildren: Raymond Bourbon of De Soto, John (Mickie) Bourbon of Hillsboro, Tina Bourbon of De Soto and Jake Bourbon of Hillsboro; a sister: Helen Cummings of Walnut Shade; several grandchildren, including a special granddaughter: Tiffany Bourbon Portell; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a stepson: Billy Bourbon; two sisters: Jane Ates and Hazel Thornton; and five brothers: Jack, Jesse, Bill, Bert, and Burl Thornton.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main, in De Soto. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Terry Crank. Burial is in the Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
