Everett Brinley, 82, of De Soto died April 4, 2019, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Brinley was a carman welder for the Union Pacific Railroad for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Army for 2 1/2 years in Germany as a hospital corpsman during the Berlin Crisis. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of De Soto and several local veterans groups. He also served on the Mo-Pac Credit Union Board of Directors and was a labor union representative. Born Oct. 7, 1936, in Fletcher, he was the son of Cora Mae (Thornhill) and Clayton Edward Brinley.
He is survived by his wife: Mary Jo Brinley; two daughters: Heidi (Roger) Hall of Columbia and Cindra “Cindy Karnes” (Mark) Taylor of Columbia; two sisters: Neoma (Dennis) Hamann of St. Louis and Mildred Wilson of De Soto; five grandchildren: Angelee (Matt) Geisler, Emilee (Mytch) Haynie, Jacob Hall, Justin (Sara) Taylor and Darren (Carrie) Taylor; and 13 grandchildren: Ben, Ashlee, Carter, Brinley Drew, Melena, Kaisyn, Justin, Jaxton, Jameson, Brooklyn, Cale, Charlie Dean and Cooper.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Jim “Pup” (the late Peggy) Brinley; an infant sister; a brother-in-law: Les Wilson; and a grandson: Scott Haynie.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto, followed immediately by funeral services officiated by Pastor Steve Richardson. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 9370 Olive Blvd., St. Louis MO 63132. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
