Evelyn Marrie Carter, 98, of Festus died March 18, 2023, at Crystal Oaks Nursing Center in Festus. Mrs. Carter was born Jan. 19, 1925, in Festus, the daughter of the late Mattie (Casey) and Keith Keaton. She was preceded in death by her husband: Phillip Lee Carter Jr.
She is survived by a son: Phillip Keith Carter of Woodbury, Minn.; three grandchildren: Leigh Alexandra Carter of California, Phillip Paul (fiancé Lana Emerson) Carter of Kansas City and Melvin Ian-Delmar (Mary Katherine) Carter of Wisconsin; and three great-grandchildren: Michael Phillip Carter, Brendan Patrick Carter and Alexander Lynn Emerson.
She was preceded in death by six siblings: Elvoid L. (the late Lavella) Keaton, Mormon O. (G.K.) Keaton, Henry “King” Keaton, Ernest Keaton, Opal (the late Melvin) Wansley and Elizabeth Keaton.
Visitation is scheduled from 5 p.m. until a funeral service at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main, in Festus, officiated by Pastor Gabrielle Smith-Kennedy. A burial service will be held at 9:45 a.m. Friday, March 25, in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
