Eunice Marlene (Ballard) Burgio, 68, of Hillsboro died Oct. 6, 2018, in St. Louis. Mrs. Burgio was a retired teacher with the Hillsboro R-3 School District and a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Hillsboro. She was a 1968 graduate of Hillsboro High School and attended Notre Dame University before graduating from Maryville University with a master’s degree in education. After her retirement in 2004, she worked as a real estate broker. She was a member of the National Educational Association, NARS and the SGAR. Born Sept. 26, 1950, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Helen Kathryn (Heck) and Ray Eugene Ballard Sr.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years: Tony Burgio, whom she married Oct. 2, 1971, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in De Soto; a son: Anthony Burgio of Hillsboro; a daughter: Nicole (T.R.) Lane of Festus; a sister: Eileen Forys of Dittmer; a sister-in-law: Terry Ballard of De Soto; three grandchildren: Makayla, Cole and Kaden Lane of Festus; and numerous family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother: Ray Eugene Ballard Jr.; a brother-in-law: Carl Forys; her father-in-law: Joseph M. Burgio Sr.; and two mothers-in-law: Leta H. Burgio and Eleanor Burgio.
Visitation is scheduled from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Robert D. Brown Funeral Home, 103 Fourth St., in Hillsboro. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 701 Third St., in Hillsboro. Burial is in the Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert D. Brown Funeral Home.
