Ethel May Johnson, 94, of Festus died April 7, 2022, at her home. Mrs. Johnson worked as a shop steward for Howard Industries in Festus, and also worked at the De Soto Shoe Factory, Hopkins Carpet and Colonial Cleaners. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Festus-Crystal City. She enjoyed planning family gatherings, traveling, bowling and trips to Las Vegas or Tunica, Miss. Born March 9, 1928, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Freda (Hoffman) and Milton James Hill.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Walter E. Johnson.
She is survived by two daughters: Karen Biehle of Festus and Glenda (Rick) Ruble of Pevely; three sisters: Fay Vaccaro of Centralia, Ill., Doris Brooks of De Soto and Ruth (Donald) Barnett of Hillsboro; three brothers: Glen Hill of Festus, Donald (Vickye) Hill of Cadet and Kenneth (Karen) Hill of Barnhart; three grandchildren: Dr. Craig (Therese) Ruble, Dr. Chad (Kristen) Ruble and Kirk (Cerissa) Biehle; and eight great-grandchildren: Joshua, Nathan, Elena, Alexis, Aaliyah, Lucas, Jacob and Matthew Ruble.
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Mildred Helen Hill and June Marie Harding; two brothers: Robert “Bob” (the late Marge) Hill and James (Kathryn) Hill; a son-in-law: Dr. L. Terry Biehle and a brother-in-law: Charles Vaccaro.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Monday, April 11, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus, immediately followed by services officiated by Donald Barnett. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or First United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
