Pope, Edward

Edward L. Pope, 74, of De Soto died July 13, 2018, in De Soto. Mr. Pope was retired from the Chrysler Assembly Plant in Fenton, where he worked for more than 30 years in the personnel department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in De Soto. He is remembered as an active volunteer in the De Soto community who helped found the Jefferson County YMCA. He also enjoyed playing golf. Born May 6, 1944, in De Soto, he was the son of the late Mabel (Boyer) and George William Pope Sr.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years: Joyce (Hauck) Pope of De Soto, whom he married Dec. 2, 1967, in Dixon; two children: Kim (Chad) Queen of De Soto and Michael (Deanna) Pope of De Soto; five grandchildren: Jake Queen, Jordan Queen, Sarah Queen, Masey Pope and Abby Pope.

He was preceded in death by a brother: George William “Ben” Pope II.

Funeral Mass was held July 17 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in De Soto, officiated by Father Alexander Anderson. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to Special Olympics Missouri, 305 Special Olympics Dr., Jefferson City, 65109. Arrangements were under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
