Edward Joseph Patek, 79, of Festus died Sept. 23, 2016, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Patek was a glassworker and locomotive engineer for Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co., a bus driver for the Festus R-6 School District, a member and volunteer at Our Lady Catholic Church in Festus, former coach and board member of the Twin City Little League and former board member of Pony Bird Inc. He was born May 28, 1937, in Crystal City, the son of the late Rilla (Bunch) and John Patek.
He is survived by his wife: Deanna A. (Abernathy) Patek; two sons: Edward A. (Connie Huck) Patek of Festus and Mark (Milena) Patek of Lee’s Summit; a daughter: Dana (John) Menkhaus of Heath, Texas; a sister: Helen (the late Wilbert) Arnold of Festus; a brother: Jack (the late Jackie) Patek of Festus, eight grandchildren: Brandon (Ashley) Patek, Hillary, Kelsie, MacKenzie, Blake, Nick and Breanna Patek and Louis Menkhaus; and a great-grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by a daughter: Mary Annette Patek.
Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at Our Lady Catholic Church, 1550 St. Mary’s Lane, Festus, officiated by Father Jeffrey Maassen. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to Pony Bird Inc. or Our Lady Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
