Pooker, Edna

Edna Dora Pooker, 98, of Festus died July 8, 2017, at Crystal Oaks Skilled Nursing in Crystal City.  Mrs. Pooker was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, where she was an active member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She served as organist for the Zion congregation for much of her adult life, which was dedicated to service to family and friends, her church and her Lord. She was born Oct. 23, 1918, in Hillsboro, the daughter of the late Emilie (Linhorst) and Otto Steinbach.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years: Harold C. Pooker.

She is survived by three daughters: Bernice (Robert) Nissen of Pearl River, N.Y., Evelyn Brassie of Southern Pines, N.C., and Janice (David) Koopsman of Grafton, Wis.; a son: Norman (Lois) Pooker of Festus; seven granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a grandson: Matthew John Pooker.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 14, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main, in Festus. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, followed by a luncheon.  Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 9700 Zion Lutheran Church Road, Hillsboro, 63050. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
