Dr. Martha A. Reed, 74, of Hillsboro died Nov. 2, 2018, at her home. Dr. Reed received an undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and graduated magna cum laude of the St. Louis University School of Medicine. Board-certified in internal medicine, she was a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Internal Medicine and the Alpha Omega Medical Honor Society. She maintained a medical practice in Jefferson County for more than 40 years and was on the staff at Jefferson Memorial Hospital as well as serving as medical director for VITAS Hospice. She enjoyed travel, genealogy, and hosting family gatherings, especially for Christmas. Born Aug. 19, 1944, in Chesterfield, she was the daughter of the late Myrtle M. (Miller) and Allen E. Reed.
She is survived by two sisters: Marcella Leuchtefeld of Glenco and Mary Jane (Lloyd) Thebeau of Hillsboro; four brothers: David (Janet) Reed of Hillsboro, Robert “Bob” Reed of Hillsboro, Dr. Leslie (Mary Beth) Reed of Hillsboro and Roger Reed of Hillsboro; two sisters-in-law: Liz Reed of Hillsboro and Linda Bauman Reed of Festus; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters: Amelia “Dolly” Thomeczek, Helen Hayes Agnello, Sarah Reed and Della Reed; four brothers: Don Reed, Eugene “Pete” Reed, Franklin “Frank” Reed and James Reed; two sisters-in-law: Patricia Reed and Waltraud “Trudy” Reed; and four brothers-in-law: Harold Leuchtefeld, Norbert Thomeczek, George Hayes and Salvatore Agnello.
Visitation is scheduled from 1-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Old Bethel Church, 3300 Hwy T., in Labadie, officiated by Chaplain John Davis. Burial is in the Old Bethel Cemetery.
