Dow Edward “Ed” Fisher, 83, of Fort Mitchell, Ala., formerly of High Ridge, died Jan. 18, 2018, at his home. Mr. Fisher was born Oct. 21, 1934, in Piggott, Ark., the son of the late Walter Fisher and Nina Simpson Fisher. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1952-1955 as an electrician on the USS Iowa and the USS Baltimore, a ship he helped ‘light up’ for Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953. A lifelong Harley motorcycle enthusiast, he rode his bike to his electrician job at Chrysler until his retirement in 1995, then as a hobby until 2014, sometimes coming home soaked to the skin or with his beard frozen solid.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dean (Avants) Fisher, whom he married in 1956.
He is survived by a stepdaughter: Toni (Denny Clark) Fisher; two sisters: Francis M. (Fisher) Parrish of McDougal, Ark., and Eunice M. (Fisher) Stevens of Sturgeon; 13 grandchildren: Renee (Barrow) Wigger, Alexis Tessaro, Erica (Tessaro) Jensen, Steven Clark, Chad Barrow, Toni (Barrow) Pegher, Laura Fisher, Deanna (Barrow) Bailey, Joshua Fisher, Nicole Fisher-Bohle, Eric Fisher, Walter Fisher and Zachary Fisher; 16 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved pug, Odis.
He was preceded in death by a stepson: Jerry (Shirley Stokes) Barrow; two sons: John (Kim Wilson Beck) Fisher and Dennis (Denise Bennett) Fisher
A funeral service is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. Burial is in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
