Dorothy Viola Hughes, 97, of Hillsboro died Monday, Aug, 12, 2019, at The Villas nursing center in De Soto. Mrs. Hughes worked for Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. in Crystal City, Missouri Brown Shoe Co. in De Soto, and Missouri and Howard Industries in Festus. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal City. Born Aug. 8, 1922, in Festus, she was the daughter of the late Frieda (Rathjen) and Gustav “Gus” Wagner. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years: George R. Hughes.
She is survived by her daughter: Bobette Hughes (Steven) Lalumondier of Hillsboro; a grandson: Brett Hughes Thompson of San Pedro, Calif.; a step-grandson: Robert Lalumondier of Ashburn, Va.; three step-granddaughters: Lori (John) Thiel of Sharon, Pa., Kami (Shaun) Bower of Grove City, Ohio, Megan (Brent) Cahill of Hilliard, Ohio; six step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law: Eva “Lucy” Wagner of Festus and Carol Ann Wagner of Farmington.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Roy Wagner and Raymond G. Wagner; and three sisters: Iona “Toni” (the late Nick) Nickens, Lorraine (the late Harvey) Frazier and Arlene (the late Cletus) Cox.
Memorial services will be in private. Burial will be in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks, officiated by Chaplain Cody Alley of Mercy Hospice. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
